About Us

Mission statement

At Bumi, our mission is to create matchless clothing and accessories with vibrant traditional fabrics for individuals seeking to celebrate the African culture. Sourced and handmade in Africa, all products from Bumi bring awareness to local craftwork.

Vision

To be a major European fashion brand by being persistent in creating matchless clothing and accessories with vibrant fabrics while being environmentally and socially conscious. At Bumi, we aim to bridge the gap between culture & fashion for the enthusiasts, so it is imperative to work closely with local craftsmen that manufacture our products while providing them with ethical working conditions.

Background

Bumi first started in Oslo, Norway when founder Phebe Bumi Irabor noticed the lack of diversity in the Scandinavian Fashion industry. Missing home, Nigeria, and wanting to share her rich culture, Bumi was founded.  “BUMI” means Gift In Yoruba, Nigeria. A gift to fashion enthusiasts with a love for African culture and seeking to add it to their everyday style.

Our story

Bumi is not just about providing trendy fashion but celebrating the African culture by those who appreciate it. The foundation of our brand is to create outstanding fashion but slowly maintain low waste during production and provide high-quality products. We are not looking to be part of the big and fast-scale fashion industry that’s why we focus on creating matchless handmade products which are extremely slow and time-consuming. Inspired by the maximalist, exclusive, and vibrant fashion in Nigeria taught to Phebe Bumi Irabor by her grandmother, BUMI inspires women to express their ultimate selves through fashion.

Products and services

At Bumi, we focus on African-inspired garments and Accessories. Using popular traditional fabrics like Ankara and Adire we focus on blending modern and traditional styles to make them more accessible to everyday lifestyle. Bumi isn’t just for Africans but for everyone that wants to participate and celebrate the African heritage.
